songwriting under palm trees

imagine waking up every morning to a blue sky and palm trees, knowing you’ll get to do exactly what you want… all day. that was my life last week. im still buzzing from my latest adventure. in a way it was long overdue. last week i packed a backpack, some recording gear and my shorts (hallelujah) heading down to a tiny fisherman village in the South of Spain, called Las Negras. i joined about 25 other songwriters, producers and ‘topliners’ (industry speak for singers) in 6 days of commercial pop songwriting and an all-round amazing time. met so many friendly people and learned so so so much in the process. not only was it a challenge to complete an ENTIRE SONG EVERY DAY with a group of 2-3 strangers… it helped me sharpen my producing and writing skills. it was fun to practice just getting this shit done, not stressing over details to much. it was a totally new experience to co-write with professionals like this, and no better place to do it than in this tiny village in a really beautiful simplistic hotel.

back home to much colder and greyer Heidelberg is a mixed bag. im so happy to see my kids & friends again but i do miss being in a creative flow like this every day, and just having a finished product at the end of every night to listen back to. im excited to bring some of this creative flow and speedy, less questions-asked creating back into my process at my home-studio, and to keep experimenting with co-writing.
